Change Lifestyle - Prevent Alzheimers
Did you know that 1 in 8 older Americans are affected with Alzheimers but only 2% of these cases are linked to genetic inheritance? Diteary habits can play a major role in the development of thise disease and supplementation can hep in the prevention and progression.
What to do:
- Keep cholesterol at normal levels. Avoid fats and organ meats. Vascular dementia is insufficient blood to the brain (atherosclerosis) which can be compounded by hypertension, diabetes, and smoking.
- Keep blood sugar down. Type 2 diabetics have twice the risk of developing Alzheimer's. Insulin dependent diabetics have four times the risk. Overweight individuals also have a higher risk.
- Add multi-vitamins. Be aware that many will not have the proper amounts needed. Additional B,C, E, and Essential Fatty Acids are needed. Fish can provide additional EFA, but be aware that many fish contain mercury.
- Other recommendations: limit alcohol, avoid smoking, exercise regularly, reduce reliance on prescription drugs when possible. We can help with your supplementation.
